Grut – on Kickstarter

MediaLAB Amsterdam Alumni launched a Kickstarter Campaign. The project started in september 2014, when 3 students started working on concepts to reduce foodwaste in urban environments. In close collaboration with Cisco Systems they started experimenting with connecting food to the internet with IoT solutions. Based on insights of the Amsterdam municipality the team started focussing on kids in the age of 8 to 12. While developing for these kids, they found out that also adults were very interested in the concept they we’re developing. When they presented the first prototype, we encouraged them to take it to the next level. They needed extra funding for this. On wednesday June 3rd they launched a kickstarter campaign. Within the first 12 hours they already reached 10% of their goal.

The project was developed as part of an internship at MediaLAB Amsterdam with the collaboration of Cisco NL. Ilaria and Jarmal started the project from the very first day, with the goal to create something smart and fun to show children the value of food and the science behind its growth. When they showed their idea to Rob, he immediately fell in love with the project, adding the technical skills needed for the Grüt team to shine!
